KAREN KING – BIO
New York based multi-talented singer-songwriter/performer Karen King was back on the NYC stage recently, debuting her new live concert show at the popular Cutting Room in Manhattan with an 8-piece band under the direction of acclaimed musical conductor/arranger Angelo DiPippo.
Throughout the years, she and her husband, actor and radio personality, John “Cha Cha” Ciarcia, became beloved mainstays in New York’s Italian-American community and in Little Italy. This past summer, Karen King was asked to sing for visiting Italian Mayor Luigi de Magistris of Naples at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Little Italy in June of this year, an event that was covered by the New York Times. She also celebrated her new “American anthem” single “Here We Are (America)”, performing it live for the first time on the Wounded Warriors float at this year’s parade for the Feast of San Gennaro in Little Italy
Karen followed in the footsteps of her mother, who was a professional singer. Her mentor and close friend in her college years was acclaimed actress & stage performer Mable King, who starred on the sitcom What’s Happening, and helped Karen navigate through the early stages of her entertainment pursuits. She later performed in “Mable King and Karen King” live showcases in Los Angeles.
Karen studied drama and theater at Queens College in New York.
King started acting in television commercials and made her music video debut in the Kenny Loggins Vox Humana video in 1985. She also landed roles in independent feature film projects including Toxic Avenger 2, Toxic Avenger 3 and Rock-n-Roll Vampire, with her vocals being featured on the film soundtracks as well.
She also enjoyed a very successful limited engagement of the Off-Broadway show she wrote and starred in, The Original American Idol, based on the life of legendary singer Kate Smith, at The Players Club in Manhattan.
Karen King has performed to help raise funds for the Vietnam Veterans Association of America and has appeared on both the Jerry Lewis Telethon and the Danny Thomas Telethon.
And, King is currently recording a new album, again under the direction of musical conductor /arranger Angelo DiPippo, with whom she has recorded other albums and singles.
